R500 Bribe Offered to Silence Family After Child S3x Act Video Goes Viral! – Six-Year-Old in Disturbing Video

A disturbing video depicting a six-year-old boy engaged in a sexual act in Mitchells Plain has ignited widespread outrage and prompted immediate intervention from both the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Western Cape Department of Social Development. The incident, captured in an eight-second clip, has not only led to a formal investigation but also a stern warning from authorities regarding the criminal implications of sharing such content.

The viral video, recorded on 14 March, quickly circulated across social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp, drawing the attention of authorities. Brigadier Brian Muller, station commander at Mitchells Plain police, confirmed that detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) visited the child's family home in Eastridge. Their intention was to facilitate the opening of a case, however, the parents of the younger boy declined to press charges, citing profound fear.

Despite the parents' reluctance, Brigadier Muller insisted on opening an inquiry docket. This procedural step allows investigators to meticulously gather and assess all available evidence before determining the appropriate charges. Muller emphasised that once the investigation is complete, the docket will be referred to a senior state prosecutor, who will then decide if there is sufficient evidence for prosecution. He described the incident as
a “seriously disturbing” incident and confirmed that police are working closely with the Department of Social Development.

Speaking briefly to News24, the minor’s parents expressed their anger and disappointment. The mother described the event as “unacceptable” and revealed she only became aware of the video after it had already begun circulating on WhatsApp. On the day the video was filmed, the parents believed their son was simply playing outside with his friends, chasing his soccer ball as he typically would. “Never in a million years did I think he was being exposed to explicit things outside,” the mother stated, highlighting the shock and betrayal they felt.

In a further distressing revelation, the couple claimed they were offered R500 by the older boy’s parents in an attempt to dissuade them from reporting the incident to the authorities. While they assert they declined the money, they did, ostensibly, accept an apology on behalf of the older child. The mother expressed a desire to move past the ordeal, saying, “I just want to forget this entire ordeal. We are now monitoring my son whenever he goes to play outside.” This sentiment underscores the deep emotional impact the incident has had on the family.

The Western Cape MEC for Social Development, Jaco Londt, confirmed that his department has been in contact with both families involved. While unable to provide specific details due to the sensitive nature of child protection matters, Londt assured the public that “the necessary interventions will be done to support those affected.” He further explained the department’s protocol when child protection matters are reported: social workers conduct a safety and risk assessment to determine if a child is in immediate danger. If so, the child may be removed and placed in temporary safe care. Even if removal is not deemed necessary, social workers continue to work with the children and their families to strengthen support structures, which can include parenting programmes, counselling, and referrals to other professional services.

Londt also highlighted the department’s proactive efforts, which include conducting campaigns, outreach programmes, and information sessions to educate children about safe and responsible online behaviour. However, he stressed that the primary responsibility for the care and protection of children ultimately rests with parents and caregivers. He urged parents to regularly check their children’s devices, monitor their internet usage, and educate them about the potential dangers of social media. “We encourage all parents and caregivers to have age-appropriate discussions with their children about sex, the consequences of risky behaviour, and how to make responsible choices,” Londt advised. He acknowledged that such conversations might be uncomfortable but emphasised their vital role in protecting children, adding that parents should also inform children how to seek help from schools, the Department of Social Development (DSD), or child protection organisations.

The department reiterated a crucial warning: it is a criminal offence to possess any sexual content involving children on any device. Sharing such content is considered the distribution of child pornography, which carries severe legal consequences. Beyond the legal ramifications, the department stressed the immense harm that sharing such material inflicts upon the children involved. An urgent appeal was made to anyone who may have the video on their devices to immediately delete it and to encourage others to do the same, underscoring the collective responsibility to protect vulnerable children.

Lynn Phillips, secretary of the Cape Flats Safety Forum, expressed her profound disgust at the video’s content, stating she became “even more disturbed” as she witnessed the clip being shared relentlessly across various community groups. “We cannot turn a blind eye,” Phillips asserted, calling for collective action. She emphasised that “Every parent, every adult, every community member has a responsibility to act – to protect, to intervene and to demand justice.” Her words reflect a growing sentiment within the community that such incidents demand a robust and unified response.

Brigadier Muller also confirmed that the teenage boy involved in the incident is scheduled for assessment by a forensic psychologist, a standard procedure in cases involving minors. “When a child is involved in a matter of this nature, a forensic psychological assessment is required,” Muller explained. He added that an appointment has already been arranged, and the outcome of this process will be crucial in guiding the prosecutor on the appropriate way forward. This assessment aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances and the psychological impact on the individuals involved, ensuring a just and informed legal process.
