Three accused in Isaac Satlat murder abandon bail bid – police hunt fourth suspect

0

The three people accused of killing e-hailing driver Isaac Satlat have abandoned their bid for bail, and will remain behind bars while police continue their investigation.

Satlat was hijacked and strangled to death last week by passengers who had requested an e-hailing trip. The brutal attack was captured on his dashcam and has been widely shared on social media, sparking national outrage.

Dikeledi Mphela, Gotsione Machidi and McLaren Mushwana appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday.

All three abandoned their bail applications, meaning they will stay in custody for now. The case was postponed to 23 February for further investigation related to bail and the charges they face.

Police say they are still searching for a fourth suspect believed to have been involved in the hijacking and murder.

Outside the court, scores of people picketed, demanding harsh punishment for the accused and justice for Satlat.
