Madlanga Commission Witness Wiandre Pretorius Dies in Suspected Suicide
Brakpan – Wiandre Pretorius, who was implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, is suspected to have died by suicide on Saturday, two days after he survived a hit at his Boksburg home on Thursday.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, confirmed that an inquest docket had been registered after a 41-year-old man allegedly shot and killed himself at a filling station in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday. While she did not disclose the man’s identity, sources have confirmed it was Pretorius.
“All role players, including police detectives and forensic experts, attended the crime scene. This matter is under investigation,” she said.
Marius van der Merwe, known as Witness D at the Madlanga Commission, had previously placed Pretorius at the scene where Emmanuel Mbense was allegedly tortured, murdered, and dumped in a dam in 2022.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding Pretorius's death.
Earlier reports indicated that the incident reportedly took place in the presence of his partner, Sergeant Juan Mare Eksteen. Newzroom Afrika reported from the filling station on Sunday morning, showing sand at the spot where Pretorius allegedly took his life.
