Five Dead, Two Injured in KZN Collision

Five people have died and two others were injured in a collision in Manandi, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday.

A horrific accident on Friday has claimed the lives of five people, leaving two others fighting for their lives in Manandi, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the MEC for Transport in the province, Siboniso Duma, he received a report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) at 21:30 informing him about a collision along the N2.

“According to the RTI report, a Corsa and a tipper truck collided in Manandi along the N2, resulting in the deaths of four adults and one child,” he said. “Two other people are reportedly seriously injured.”

Duma said that a team was working on tracing the families of the victims, while the RTI team was collaborating with disaster teams from the Inkosi uMtubatuba Local Municipality to expedite recovery efforts and clear the accident scene.

“We wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” Duma said. “Finally, we have agreed with the RTI that an investigation into this accident must be launched in collaboration with the Road Traffic Management Corporation and SAPS.”

On Thursday, News24 reported on another devastating crash between a fully loaded taxi and a truck in Isipingo, in the south of Durban, which claimed 11 lives. That collision occurred on the R102, also known as Wanda Cele Road, near the M35 off-ramp. The cause of that accident is also under investigation.
