Nine Pupils Injured in Minibus Taxi Collision in Durban

Glenwood, Durban – A serious school transport accident occurred in Glenwood on Monday afternoon, leaving nine pupils injured when a minibus taxi collided with a bakkie.

The collision took place after 15:00 on Lena Ahrens Road near Rhodes Avenue. According to ALS Paramedics, the taxi, which was transporting schoolchildren home, T-boned the bakkie in a dramatic crash.

Garrith Jamieson, an ALS spokesperson, reported that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found nine children of various ages who had sustained a range of injuries. “Paramedics assessed the scene and found that nine children of various ages had sustained various injuries,” he explained. To manage the situation, additional ambulances were dispatched to ensure adequate medical support.

Once the pupils were triaged and stabilised at the scene, they were transported to various hospitals across Durban for further treatment. The exact nature of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.

The circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear, but South African Police Service (SAPS) officials were present at the scene and will be conducting an investigation to understand the cause of the crash. Comments from the police are expected to provide further clarity once available.
