Pretoria Woman Arrested After Allegedly Shooting and Killing Neighbour's Child
Temba – A 38-year-old woman has been taken into custody in Temba, north of Pretoria, following the tragic death of her neighbour's four-year-old child. The woman is accused of shooting and killing the child in an incident that occurred on Sunday at approximately 18:30 in Chris Hani Village.
According to police reports, the child was playing outside with other children when the neighbour allegedly discharged her licensed firearm.
Warrant Officer Marinda Austin, a police spokesperson, stated: "It is suggested that the woman was testing her firearm, a 9mm Glock, inside the yard and shot the child."
The young victim was immediately rushed to Temba Clinic, but tragically, he was declared dead upon arrival.
Austin confirmed that the police received a call from Temba Clinic regarding the deceased, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the right armpit.
The 38-year-old woman has been arrested and faces charges of murder, negligent handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm within a municipal area.
"Police also seized the firearm," Austin added.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Temba Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
Brigadier Johannes Tau, the station commander for Temba, has strongly condemned the incident. He issued a stern warning to all firearm owners, urging them to exercise extreme caution and adhere to all safety regulations when handling their weapons.
