Scholar Taxi Driver Charged with 14 Counts of Murder in Vaal Horror Crash
Vanderbijlpark – Ayanda Dludla, the 22-year-old driver of the scholar taxi involved in this week's tragic accident in the Vaal region, has been formally charged with murder. The news emerged during his first court appearance at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where the courtroom was filled to capacity.
Dludla now faces a staggering 14 counts of murder, reflecting the devastating loss of life in the crash. In addition to the murder charges, he is also facing three counts of attempted murder, indicating that several other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The charges against Dludla extend beyond the immediate consequences of the crash. He is also accused of driving without a professional driving permit, operating an unlicensed vehicle, and reckless and negligent driving. These additional charges suggest a disregard for road safety regulations that may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
According to reports from the courtroom, Dludla appeared visibly shocked as Magistrate Claudia Venter informed him of the severity of the charges he faces. Magistrate Venter emphasised the need for Dludla to secure legal representation, given the gravity of the accusations against him. The case is expected to proceed in the coming weeks, with Dludla's legal team preparing to mount a defence against the charges. The community awaits further developments in this deeply tragic case.
