Waterval, Limpopo – A 28-year-old man from Magangeni Village in Waterval has been arrested following allegations that he raped, threatened, and confined his ailing mother. The arrest, made on Monday, comes after an incident that reportedly occurred on Saturday evening.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the arrest, stating, "The police in Waterval arrested a 28-year-old man for rape, kidnapping and intimidating his mother."
According to preliminary police reports, the incident unfolded at approximately 18:30 on Saturday when the suspect arrived at his home and demanded money from his mother. Colonel Ledwaba explained, "According to the preliminary reports, at around 18:30 on Saturday, the suspect came home and started to demand money from his mother, and she responded that she had no cash."
The situation then allegedly escalated, with the man becoming aggressive towards his mother, who suffers from a health condition. "The suspect allegedly insulted and attacked his mother and suddenly raped her. The victim tried to resist, but she was overpowered," Ledwaba stated.
Following the alleged rape, the suspect is accused of further confining his mother. "After the alleged rape ordeal, he locked the victim inside the house and left," said Colonel Ledwaba.
The victim was eventually able to seek help from members of the local community, who managed to unlock the house and free her. "She then informed the police about the incident, and a rape case was registered at Waterval SAPS," Ledwaba confirmed.
