Man Arrested for Brutal Murder of Elderly Parents in Ndwedwe

A 43-year-old man has been taken into custody following the gruesome murder of his elderly parents in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received an urgent call for assistance at 13:26 on Tuesday from a local councillor. The councillor reported that an elderly couple had been murdered in their home earlier that day, and their son was preventing neighbours from offering help, allegedly guarding the door with a knife.

RUSA dispatched paramedics to the Thafamasi Area in Ndwedwe, approximately 33 kilometres from their headquarters, to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured couple.

Reaction Officers, coordinating with officers from Ndwedwe SAPS, located the scene. The son was apprehended before officers entered a rondavel (a traditional, round dwelling) where they discovered the couple lying in a pool of blood.

Paramedics pronounced Phumzile Rachel Ngcobo, 74, and Mziwamandla Ngcobo, 79, dead at the scene. Both victims had sustained multiple stab wounds and had been brutally bludgeoned in the face. A knife and pieces of firewood, believed to be the weapons used in the attack, were recovered inside the rondavel.

The suspect, the couple's son, was restrained and treated for self-inflicted stab wounds after he apparently attempted to take his own life. At this time, it remains unconfirmed whether the man suffers from any mental health issues.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities delve into the circumstances surrounding this horrific crime.
