According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle lost control after shots were fired, resulting in the car crashing into a tree. Emergency services were called to the scene, where they pronounced one of the occupants dead. The remaining three men, all in their twenties, were transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that Goodwood police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Van Riebeeck Street. "Upon arrival on the scene, they found four males who sustained gunshot wounds. A 20-year-old male was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other three males, also in their twenties, were transported to a medical facility for treatment," Twigg stated.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU). Detectives are pursuing leads in what is being treated as a murder case, along with four counts of attempted murder. As of yet, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Abdullah Sydney, Chairperson of the Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF), indicated that the shooting is believed to be gang-related. "I can confirm that the driver drove into a tree and lost control, and they were shot," Sydney explained. "All we know for now is that it is gang-related, and we do not know if it is a retaliation or a hit."

The police are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation. "Anyone with any information about this shooting incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously," urged Sergeant Twigg.

This incident in Goodwood is part of a worrying trend of violent crime affecting various communities across Cape Town.

On Friday, a 30-year-old man was fatally shot, and a woman was injured in a separate shooting in Hanover Park. The incident took place at Mentz Court in Lansport Road. Captain FC van Wyk, the SAPS provincial spokesperson, said, "The motive for this incident is being investigated, and the possibility that the incident could be gang-related cannot be ruled out. Suspects are unknown, and no arrest has been made as yet." Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in their investigation.

In another incident, two people were wounded in Colorado Park, Mitchells Plain, after their car came under fire in Sacramento Street. Crime groups reported the shooting.

Heideveld also experienced a spate of gang-related shootings. In Falcon Street, a man was shot and wounded, while in a separate incident at Susan Court, two others sustained critical injuries.

The recent surge in gang-related violence has prompted increased calls for community involvement and enhanced policing strategies to address the root causes of crime and ensure the safety of residents.
