The ANC has granted suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu special leave from his political party responsibilities, following his request. This decision, announced by Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, comes after the ANC initially declined Mchunu's request. The ANC now cites the demands of the ongoing Madlanga Commission into corruption within South Africa's criminal justice system as the reason for granting the leave. Mchunu is a key figure in both the Madlanga Commission and a parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating police corruption, having been implicated by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner general Nhlanhla Mkwanazi. The investigation is ongoing.
