Explosive Testimony: Mchunu Linked to Alleged Underworld Boss at Inquiry

Johannesburg – Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is facing fresh scrutiny after testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry linked him to alleged criminal Katiso "KT" Molefe. Captain Maxwell Wanda, a former member of the political killings task team, testified that during Molefe's arrest in December 2024, he was informed that Mchunu was friends with the alleged underworld boss.

Wanda claims that during the raid at Molefe’s home, a man identified as Molefe's bodyguard or driver made the startling revelation. The task team had arrested Molefe in connection with the murder of Vereeniging engineer, Armand Swart.

According to Captain Wanda, the man, Lehasa Moloi, made the claim after being offered water and a cigarette. "He asked me a question that 'What is going to happen now because the arrested person is the friend of the minister of police?' I asked him who the minister is and he said the minister of police. I asked him if it was honourable Senzo Mchunu and then he said yes," Wanda testified.

Mchunu has previously faced accusations of having ties to another suspected underworld figure, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. However, Mchunu denied any connection to criminal figures in Parliament last week. The Madlanga Commission is continuing its investigation into the matter.
