Tragedy in Seshego: Three-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Left in Car
Seshego – Seshego police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of a three-year-old girl who was found locked inside a vehicle on Monday. The tragic incident occurred in Seshego, Limpopo, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, officers were called to Seshego Hospital at approximately 15:10. A medical doctor directed them to a blue Toyota Corolla Cross parked on the hospital premises.
"Police were informed of the tragic discovery of a three-year-old girl, who was found locked in the vehicle with its windows closed, seated in the back seat," said Ledwaba. "Reports indicate that, regrettably, the child succumbed to the oppressive heat and lack of oxygen while inside the vehicle."
Preliminary investigations suggest the girl had been left inside the car earlier that morning, around 07:00, by her mother.
Authorities believe the mother had rushed to a handover session at the medical facility and, in a devastating oversight, forgot her daughter was in the vehicle, according to Ledwaba.
On Monday, AccuWeather reported that the area experienced a high of 30°C and a low of 18°C. The combination of closed windows and high temperatures likely created a dangerous environment inside the car.
A doctor pronounced the child dead at the scene. A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
"Pathological forensic analysis (postmortem) will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, and police investigations are continuing," Ledwaba stated.
The Limpopo Department of Health has been contacted for comment, and their statement will be added to this report as soon as it is received.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
