NQUTHU, KwaZulu-Natal – Maskandi artist Dlubheke Khuzwayo, 31, has been arrested in connection with a 2023 double murder, police sources have confirmed. Khuzwayo, known by his stage name Dlubheke, was apprehended in Nquthu, northern KZN, following investigations into a gun attack that resulted in the deaths of two car passengers near the Mpukunyoni area in November 2023.

Police sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that Khuzwayo appeared in court yesterday. However, the National Prosecuting Authority has yet to provide further details on the case.

"His current arrest relates to two charges of murder. But we are looking at bringing more charges at a later stage. These are charges related to the taxi industry wars," said the police source.

KZN police spokesperson Lt-Col Paul Magwaza confirmed the arrest, stating that Khuzwayo is accused of fatally shooting two occupants of a vehicle in Mpukunyoni on November 12, 2023.

“Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a 31-year-old man for two cases of murder and two cases of attempted murder. On 12 November 2023, four male victims were in a white vehicle coming towards their homes. While passing Mpukunyoni, they were allegedly stopped by the suspect who they were conversing with on the phone while on the route.”

Khuzwayo allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road. Two occupants died from their gunshot wounds, while the other two managed to escape.

A month after the incident, Khuzwayo's homestead was reportedly targeted in a revenge attack by heavily armed men. However, his family members escaped unharmed.

Khuzwayo is the son of the late Shobeni Khuzwayo, a co-founder of the renowned maskandi group Izingane Zoma. He entered the music scene in 2009 at the age of 15 with his album "Siqhathiwe Enquthu" and quickly gained popularity within the maskandi genre.

However, his career was marred by his alleged involvement in a bitter feud linked to his family's ties to the taxi industry. He was also accused of inciting deadly faction fights in his village, which resulted in approximately 11 deaths.

The arrest of Dlubheke Khuzwayo has sent shockwaves through the maskandi music community and raises concerns about the ongoing violence associated with the taxi industry in KwaZulu-Natal. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed.
