VW Polo Snaps in Two After Crashing into Light Pole on Durban North Coast

A car split in half after crashing into a light pole on Durban’s north coast on Saturday, authorities reported.

Reaction Unit South Africa said they responded to calls for assistance on the N2 southbound lane between Umdloti Beach and La Mercy at around noon.

Paramedics and reaction officers found a 27-year-old foreign national, who allegedly lost control of a Volkswagen Polo in rainy conditions. The vehicle collided with a light pole, causing it to snap in two, with a portion of the car landing between the north and southbound lanes.

Despite the dramatic scene, the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, did not sustain serious injuries.

Reaction Unit spokespersons warned motorists to drive cautiously during wet weather, highlighting the risks of losing control on slippery roads.

The incident caused temporary disruption on the busy N2, but authorities cleared the scene soon after, ensuring traffic resumed safely.
