Four suspects have been apprehended in Parow by members of the Flying Squad in connection with an alleged hijacking incident. The arrests followed a tip-off regarding a vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.
According to police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, officers received information concerning a silver Ford Ranger LDV (Light Delivery Vehicle) allegedly involved in the hijacking of a white Toyota Corolla in Ravensmead on 9 May.
Acting swiftly on the information, the Flying Squad members located and stopped the Ford Ranger at the intersection of Tygervalley and King Edward Streets in Parow. "The members followed up the information and pulled over the LDV at the corners of Tygervalley and King Edward Streets in Parow," Van Wyk stated.
A thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants yielded significant evidence. "The vehicle and occupants were searched which led to the discovery of a replica firearm that was used in the hijacking and car parts linked to the vehicle which was hijacked," Van Wyk confirmed.
Underneath the driver's seat, officers discovered the replica firearm, believed to have been used during the hijacking. Furthermore, a substantial quantity of car parts, including a door and a car seat, linked to the hijacked Toyota Corolla, were recovered from the back of the "bakkie" (LDV).
Captain van Wyk explained that the recovered car parts are crucial to building a case against the suspects for possession of suspected stolen property. "The suspects aged between 18 and 43 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property," he added.
In addition to the arrests and the recovery of the firearm and car parts, the Ford Ranger LDV used in the commission of the alleged hijacking has been seized by police as a key piece of evidence.
"The suspects are due to appear in the Parow Magistrates Court once charged," Van Wyk confirmed, indicating that the legal process is now underway. The suspects will face charges related to the hijacking and possession of suspected stolen property.
The swift action by the Flying Squad in this case demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to tackling crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents. The investigation is ongoing, and police are exploring all possible leads to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement in the hijacking and any other related criminal activities.
