Floyd Shivambu realises that he has 'downgraded' from being Deputy President to becoming National Organiser?

Floyd Shivambu, the former deputy president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has made a controversial move, joining the ranks of Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) as their National Organiser.

This shift has sparked heated debate among South Africans, with many questioning whether it was a strategic move or a step down in his political career.

Shivambu, who rose to prominence alongside EFF leader Julius Malema, played a key role in shaping the party's ideology and policies. His departure has left some feeling betrayed, while others believe his new position is a downgrade.

"People making fun of Floyd Shivambu for “downgrading” on a job position is exactly why people lose their minds in a toxic environment for the sake of status," tweeted Lynette (@Lynette_SA), highlighting the debate surrounding Shivambu's move.

In his new role, Shivambu will be responsible for leading MK's engagements, building structures, and drafting policies. He joins a leadership team that includes former president Jacob Zuma, Deputy President John Hlophe, secretary-general Dr Sifiso Maseko, deputy secretary-general Nombuso Mkhize, and treasurer-general Menzi Ngubane.

Shivambu addressed the criticism surrounding his move that was coming from EFF president, Julius Malema, stating that "Some say ‘you are betraying me’ and don’t once suggest I am betraying the revolution. I will never betray the revolution, we are not in the business of pleasing each other’s egos."

However, some social media users have expressed skepticism about Shivambu's new position, with one user tweeting, "Floyd Shivambu here looks like a strong independent mother of 4 who’s working 58 hours a week to put food on the table 😭😭😭."

Another user, Blax (@Blax75107472), commented, "It’s clear that MKP don’t have the proper finalized governing document because could not draft a proper reliable governing document. @FloydShivambu is employed to cure the issue of the governing document."

This suggests that Shivambu's role may be more focused on administrative tasks than on leading the party's political direction.

While the MK has welcomed Shivambu, the move has raised questions about his future political ambitions and the potential impact on the EFF. Some speculate that Shivambu may be seeking a more influential role within the MK, while others believe he may be seeking to distance himself from the EFF's increasingly radical stance.

Lynette's tweet sparked a conversation on Twitter, with many users responding to her observation.

One user, @The_Real_Mzansi, replied, "Exactly! It's all about power and status in this country. People forget that real change comes from working hard, not from holding a fancy title."

However, @Thandi_Majobe, objected, "Floyd did not downgrade, he upgraded. His trajectory to the presidency will be shorter and much clearer."

Another user, @dumi_ZAR, weighed in, "Floyd opted to resign from being a Deputy President to be a national organiser for a new party, shows how toxic things were at EFF. He decided to start over and you gotta respect that."
