Shebeshxt to Spend Festive Season Behind Bars After Bail Denied
Lekompo musician Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke, will be spending both Christmas and the New Year in custody after being denied bail by the Polokwane magistrate’s court.
Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi ruled on Wednesday that Shebeshxt had failed to present sufficient exceptional circumstances that would warrant his release.
"The accused failed to discharge the honours that exceptional circumstances exist which, if considered by this court, it would be in the interest of justice that [the] accused be admitted to bail. Having said that the application of the accused for bail is hereby refused," Netshiozwi stated.
The magistrate further commented on the musician's behaviour, suggesting a need for self-reflection. "It is the conduct and the personality of the accused that caused the court to invoke the provisions which it has read into record. It is the accused person himself that can do personal introspection into himself to avoid [being] in conflict with the law. He will [then] be able to progress with the career no one can stand on his way."
Shebeshxt is facing a charge of attempted murder, stemming from an incident on October 19 in Polokwane where he allegedly shot a fan.
The case has been postponed until February 2026.
