As the year draws to a close and South Africans prepare for a well-deserved festive season break, Mzansi artists are gearing up to deliver electrifying performances across the country. Among them is the talented singer Lasauce, who is set to grace the stage at the 'Sounds of Legends' event next Saturday in Pimville, Soweto.
The event is the brainchild of Sbu Malawyer, a respected music icon in his own right, who is also preparing for the release of his album, 'Mgazi', early next year.
Speaking to Drum, Lasauce expressed her enthusiasm about being part of the event. “I’m excited to be among the artists billed to perform at the event, which I believe is going to be a vibe as the festive season finally opens. I’m honoured to have been chosen as one of the artists that will be gracing the event,” she said. Revellers can anticipate an amazing atmosphere as the festive season celebrations kick off.
Lasauce, known for her collaborations with artists like Priddy Ugly, recently released an EP titled 'Inqaba' earlier this month. She also had the opportunity to work with one of her icons, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, on a song addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a national emergency declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“The song that she and I have together is titled Imbokodo, which has connotations to strong women, and this is because of the continued fight against GBV, which we know is a crisis in our country,” she explained. “GBV affects the young and old, and nobody is excluded from it, so it’s everyone’s responsibility to get involved.”
Adding a special touch to her performance, Lasauce revealed that she will be singing one of Yvonne Chaka Chaka's songs at the event. “I will sing one of her songs at the event, as most young artists will take on the older singer’s songs as part of paying tribute to them while they are still alive,” she said.
Lasauce emphasised the importance of honouring legends while they are still alive. “The tendency we have is to show our great love and appreciation when they’re no longer with us, which is why I think this event is important, because it celebrates those who came before us and paved the way, so that we can also get to do what we love, which is music.”
The 'Sounds of Legends' event boasts an impressive lineup, including MXO, Brian Temba, and Bheki Nqoko, promising a night of unforgettable music and celebration.
