DURBAN – Gqom queen Babes Wodumo, known for her outspoken nature and chart-topping hits, has ignited a fresh wave of controversy with her candid views on relationships, aired on her reality TV show, Wena Wodumo.

The multi-award-winning artist, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, has once again set social media abuzz with her unconventional perspective on men and fidelity.

In a clip circulating on social media, Babes Wodumo declared that she would never date a man who doesn't cheat. "There's no man who doesn't cheat. I wouldn't date a man who only loves me. Why would that be? What's so special about me?" she questioned during one of her show's diary sessions.

Her views have sparked a heated debate online, with some fans supporting her unapologetic stance, while others have criticised her for seemingly promoting toxic relationship dynamics.

The 31-year-old singer even went on to offer advice to men, encouraging them to be strategic with their infidelity. "Men should play their game properly. They must have a hidden phone on the side and a SIM card that only the side girlfriend knows," said Babes, further fuelling the online firestorm.

Babes Wodumo's shocking statement comes after a painful personal revelation she shared about her late husband, Mampintsha, real name Mandla Maphumulo. The pair, who tied the knot in a private traditional ceremony in 2021 after years of a tumultuous relationship, were one of Mzansi's most talked-about celebrity couples. Sadly, Mampintsha passed away on 24 December 2022, after suffering a stroke.

She revealed that she discovered that the late Mampintsha had been unfaithful with someone she considered a close friend. "We loved each other, and she was my friend, someone I trusted with everything. We go way back. There's nothing she doesn't know about me, and the same goes for me about her. When I found her on my husband's phone… I was confused. I saw it, but I told myself I was imagining things. I felt sick in the head," she confessed.

Babes Wodumo rose to fame in 2016 with her hit song Wololo, and her first album Gqom Queen Vol.1 cemented her status as a star in the Mzansi music industry. Born in Lamontville, Chatsworth in Durban, Babes is renowned for her singing, dancing, and captivating stage presence, and has consistently remained in the spotlight for both her musical talent and dramatic personal life.

Attempts to reach Babes Wodumo for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
