JOHANNESBURG – Skeem Saam viewers are in for a rollercoaster ride as actress Tauné Block joins the cast of SABC1's popular series, adding a fresh layer of drama to the already captivating storylines. The 32-year-old actress from Kimberley, Northern Cape, takes on the role of Dr Loren Blue, a medical doctor at Joburg Prison.
Dr Blue finds herself caring for Lehasa in the ICU after his near-fatal stabbing. In a surprising turn of events, a romantic connection blossoms between the two, blurring the lines of their doctor-patient relationship.
Block is well aware of the impact her character has on the established dynamics of the show, particularly the beloved relationship between Lehasa and Pretty. "I understand how much the audience loves the relationship between Lehasa and Pretty. Being the one to come between them and disappoint 'Prehasa' fans is probably my biggest challenge," she told Daily Sun.
Despite the potential for fan backlash, Block embraces the challenge, reminding herself that she is "the chosen vessel to tell Dr Blue's story." She added, "I'll continue honouring this while my reality outside her character brings me comfort, peace, and joy."
For Block, landing a role in a local drama or soapie has always been a career aspiration. "Landing this role in SA’s most loved TV series has been a huge achievement and career highlight," she said.
Block believes her character offers valuable life lessons. "She reminds me to stay passionate about things that awaken your soul and bring you joy. Lastly, she's taught me that, despite society's boundaries and restrictions, we're all worthy of giving and receiving love. I look forward to learning more with her," she explained.
Tauné Block's arrival on Skeem Saam promises to bring even more intrigue and emotional depth to the series, leaving viewers eager to see how Dr Blue's presence will impact the lives of Lehasa, Pretty, and the rest of the Turfloop community.
