Muizenberg – Five suspects are in custody following a high-speed car chase and shootout with law enforcement officers in Seawinds, near Muizenberg, on Thursday night.
The incident began after Law Enforcement LEAP officers spotted a hijacked vehicle in the area, acting on a tip-off from SAPS.
City Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason reported that four firearms were recovered, along with fifty rounds of ammunition, thirteen mandrax tablets, 41 sachets of tik, and four suspected stolen cellphones.
"The suspects were pursued in a car chase and started shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire, resulting in two suspects being shot in St. Luke's Close, Seawinds. The two injured suspects were taken to Groote Schuur Hospital. Five suspects in total were arrested," Dyason said.
