SHOWBIZ darling Bonang “Queen B” Matheba seems to have counted her chickens before they hatched. And now Mzansi’s IT girl seems to have been left with egg on her face.
This comes after Queen B prematurely announced she’d be moving to New York, US, where she’d also be shooting the upcoming season of her reality TV show, Being Bonang: Season 3.
But according to insiders, Bonang has yet to sign a contract. An insider said viewers would have to wait a while before seeing their star do her thing. This comes as the budget for the show is allegedly not big enough to allow her to fulfil her wishes of shooting in the Big Apple.
Said the insider: “Her production budget is about R3 million. So, I don’t see this happening unless she’s willing to add more from her own pocket.”
Insisted another source: “You don’t just arrive in New York and shoot, you need a shooting permit, which costs up to about 100K when converted into rands. So, who has to pay all that? Herself, not the production.”
According to the source, Bonang’s problem was that she focused too much on her rivals.
“Well, B can’t be outshined by her former BFF, Somizi, and her other nemesis, Minnie Dlamini. Remember Somizi’s trip to Europe, during which he proposed to his fiancé, was partly sponsored by GH Mumm. Minnie could afford to shoot in Paris because she was both the subject and production, she could sacrifice certain things. Bonang, on the other hand, has no choice but to stick to the production budget,” the mole said.
The source said the production crew would also need fees for accommodation, flights, food and other expenses.
“Who’s going to pay for all of that?” asked the source.
The third mole said Bonang had been struggling to get some sponsorship. She feels like she’s not getting anything through her management, as they’re busy with their other talent,” the mole said.
“They just signed Dbanj, who brings in more cash.”
Mzansi Magic publicist Philly Kubheka said they cannot comment on the issue. Bonang refused to comment and hung up the phone.
