South African media personality Unathi Nkayi has revealed she's found love again, describing her new partner as a "wonderful nerd" who prefers to stay out of the public eye. The former Idols SA judge and radio host opened up about her blossoming relationship in a recent interview with News24.
After navigating her divorce from Thomas Msengana in 2017 and dismissing years of swirling romance rumours, Unathi has now confirmed that her heart is no longer unattached. The man behind her smile, she tells News24, is a "wonderful nerd" who chooses to live his life away from the spotlight.
"I’m happy. I love him dearly. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be in love again… He’s not in the spotlight. He’s a wonderful nerd who is an academic," she shared sweetly.
Unathi, who is 47, also revealed that her mystery man, whose name she has chosen not to disclose, is the inspiration behind her decision to return to education.
"He inspires me so much. That, well, it’s what I think. He’s one of the reasons why I’m going back to school to do my master’s. I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University," she said.
The "Make Me High" singer described her partner as funny and possessing great taste in music. According to Unathi, the couple initially met four years ago and "hit it off", but eventually drifted apart. Fate intervened, and they reunited almost a year ago, deciding to make things official this time around.
"We kind of grew apart, and then we found each other at the beginning of this year," she explained.
While there’s no talk of a wedding just yet, judging by the sparkle in Unathi's eyes when she speaks of him, wedding bells may be on the horizon someday.
