Radio Mogul Given Mkhari Splits From Wife Ipeleng After Years of Marital Strain
In a shocking turn of events, radio mogul Given Mkhari has reportedly ended his marriage to Ipeleng Mkhari. The owner of Power FM and Capricorn FM has made this decision following complaints about how he was treated by his wife. Sources close to the couple have confirmed the separation, revealing that Ipeleng has since moved out of their Johannesburg home to live alone in a high-end suburb in Gauteng.
Mkhari, is said to have told Ipeleng in November last year that he no longer wished to continue with their union. Sources close to the pair revealed that he asked her to initiate divorce proceedings, warning that if she did not, he would do so himself.
According to insiders, the marriage reached breaking point in March this year, when Mkhari was allegedly admitted to hospital against his will. The move, believed to have been made at Ipeleng’s insistence and with the support of some family members, left him feeling deeply betrayed.
“He told her that he wanted out. He suggested that she should vacate their marital home, and after several discussions, she did. But he has given her a good offer, and she accepted it,” one source told Sunday World.
“So in a nutshell, I can confirm to you that Given and Ipeleng are history. She has already vacated their matrimonial home and lives alone.”
Living Apart
Ipeleng has since moved out of their shared Johannesburg home and is reportedly living alone in a high-end suburb. Friends of the couple say their children have been informed of the separation, and a formal divorce is now on the horizon.
Another associate said Mkhari has openly spoken about the split in private circles:
“Given is not shy to talk about their separation. He often says, unlike other people, he has not moved on with his life. He has been celibate since their break-up.”
A third confidant, close to Ipeleng, confirmed the separation:
“She has told us that she and Given have broken up, and she has moved out of their crib. Their children know about their separation, and soon they will be heading for a divorce.”
Marriage on the Rocks for Years
While the couple kept much of their private life away from the spotlight, insiders claim tensions had long been simmering. Mkhari reportedly told friends he had been considering ending the marriage for years but wanted to wait until his children reached adulthood.
The public first became aware of cracks in their marriage seven years ago when the pair were embroiled in a violent domestic dispute. That incident made headlines after Ipeleng allegedly assaulted her husband in a heated confrontation sparked by a text message from another woman.
According to reports, a woman named only as Puleng sent Mkhari a message calling him “baby” and asking if he was still coming to see her. The discovery allegedly triggered a furious argument between the couple.
Ipeleng is said to have stormed into their bedroom while Mkhari was watching television, accused him of infidelity, and insulted him. She allegedly slapped him, pushed him, and bit his nose and lips.
Assault Cases Withdrawn
Both Mkhari and Ipeleng laid assault charges against each other at the Randburg Police Station. Ipeleng told police she confronted him after finding the SMS on his phone, insisting the confrontation escalated into a physical fight. She herself sustained injuries to her mouth, lips and solar plexus.
However, the National Prosecuting Authority later withdrew the charges after the couple reached an out-of-court agreement.
When contacted by Sunday World about the latest developments in his personal life, Mkhari declined to comment.
The estranged couple’s separation brings to an end a high-profile marriage between two figures long admired for their business achievements and influence in South Africa’s media and corporate spaces.
