Akhumzi Jezile, darling of the South African entertainment industry, was laid to rest at an emotional funeral this weekend.
While his family, friends and fans are still trying to come to terms with what happened, his uncle has shared some horrifying details about the accident that claimed his life.
Akhumzi‚ Siyasanga Kobese‚ Thobani Mseleni and two others were killed after they were involved in a head-on collision outside Queenstown last Saturday morning.
Fologi, the entertainment star’s uncle, shared the details about the crash, which claimed the lives of five people, with Sunday World.
“A truck carrying a car went into them. They managed to escape it but the trailer went after them. Cutting the top of their car. They all died immediately. I didn’t recognise my beloved son. I had to go in and check for him closely”.
Since the news of the accident, beautiful and heart-wrenching tributes have poured in. On Saturday, Andile Ncube read out a beautiful letter from Akhumzi’s mom at his funeral service.
“How does a mother lay her child to rest? Is it not the responsibility of a first born son to lay his mother down to rest?‚” the letter started.
“I have cried a mother’s cry. I have asked God, why you. I have asked God, why me. But then I think, if not you‚ which mother should it have been in your place. It is well‚ it is well.”
“You are my child‚ but you were also my friend‚ confidant and helper. My body aches at the thought that I have lost you. I long to hold you in my arms one last time‚ I have enjoyed having you my son but God has reminded me that he is the almighty and you were loaned to me‚ and he wants to enjoy you too.
“Don’t forget to once in a while look down on us and check on us‚ see how I am doing. This is not goodbye because I know I will definitely see you again. Sleep well my angel.”
