The Joburg-based actress, known for her role as Mampho in the popular soapie, took to her Instagram on Tuesday, 9 July, to share the images, which she says were intended to showcase her progress on her weight loss journey and celebrate her current glamorous state.
"I've even posted some of these photos on my Facebook before becoming famous," Itumeleng told Daily Sun, dismissing the surprise at the reaction. "I'm not ashamed of my body," she added, her voice firm and confident.
The post, however, triggered a wave of mixed reactions, with some fans questioning whether her account had been compromised. Itumeleng, however, remained unfazed, explaining that she's always been open about her body and her journey.
"I've consistently shared my journey regarding weight, body, and mental health," she said. "So the feedback wasn't unexpected."
The 30-year-old actress has long been open about her struggles with body image and the impact of public opinion. "As a child, I struggled with people's opinions, which were often harmful," she shared. "Over the years, I’ve worked hard to create a boundary where my opinion of myself outweighs others."
Itumeleng's journey towards self-acceptance is a testament to her resilience and determination. "I’ve been working on my body for years, both mentally and physically," she explained. "I returned to the gym in October 2022."
While she acknowledges the positive feedback she's received, Itumeleng emphasizes that her primary aim is self-expression and creating memories for her followers. "I'm at a point in my life where anything is possible," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "There are so many directions I could take, and even though I don’t know what’s next, I’m trying to take a step back from controlling everything. I’m allowing God and the universe to guide me to my next destination."

"If you want to change your body because of what someone else said or to please others, it’s not worth it," she advises. "People will always have something to say."
