One of Kaizer Chiefs’ new signings will get a chance to shine against his former teammates this weekend.
With Chiefs set to take part in the Maize Cup again this year and for a chance to defend the trophy they won last year, new signing Letlhogonolo Mirwa will hope for an opportunity to impress against his former teammates from Buya Msuthu.
Chiefs have been drawn to play against the ABC Motsepe League side in the first match of the Maize Cup on Saturday, with the second match set to be played between Chippa United and Free State Stars in the one-day, four-team tournament taking place in the North West province.
Mirwa was announced by Chiefs as their new signing along with Khama Billiat and Madagascan midfielder Andriamirado Andrianarimanana.
Mirwa’s former coach at Buya Msuthu, Kabelo Sibiya says the 23-year-old left-back will want to do well against his former teammates.
“Mirwa is a good player and he will do well on the day – that I can tell you. But we will also be going all out to do our best on the day. We will try to win the football match on the day. Yes, he (Mirwa) knows our strengths and weaknesses. But he’s not the coach of the team. He will just have to go out and do well for himself on the day and I don’t think we will be affected by anything that he does on the day. We won’t even focus on that (facing Mirwa). We will focus on playing 11 v 11 against Kaizer Chiefs and try to do our best to win the match,” said Sibiya.
“I would like to thank the supporters of Buya Msuthu for their support. They have been there for us and encouraging us to do well. We are doing our utmost best in training to prepare well for the match. We would like them to come in numbers to support us,” concluded the coach.
