Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly offered his services to Juventus before the 2018 FIFA World Cup after feeling insulted by the treatment from Real Madrid and club president Florentino Pérez.

Ronaldo, 33, is seemingly on the verge of a dramatic exit from the 13-time European champions after eight record-breaking seasons in Spain.

The club's all-time record goalscorers' exit threats have often arisen during the off-season in a bid to negotiate a new contract, but Real's stern approach has seen him and his agent Jorge Mendes assess new options.

Spanish publication Marca claims Ronaldo, who currently earns €21m euros a year at Real, feels mistreated by the club over Pérez's broken promises.

And his unhappiness over the situation escalated when Barcelona rewarded his fierce rival Lionel Messi a lucrative €45m annual wage in November – added to the €37m salary that Neymar now receives at Paris Saint-Germain following his world-record move to France last August.

Ronaldo was allegedly led to believe that, after winning the 2017 Ballon d'Or, Real would finally renew his terms; however, not only did that not happen, but Los Blancos issued a €100m price-tag on his head, while publicly flirting with the idea of a €300m move for Neymar.

Premier Sport says that the Portugal captain and his agent, Jorge Mendes, met Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici before the World Cup to offer his services in a move that could shock the entire football fraternity.

Shares in Juventus FC jumped almost 10{1f0bb132e08ca1f8565add86e1f8740171c75f84ed80bad4a750114913f392ef} on Thursday on the back of reports that Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo might soon join the Italian club.

For a second day running, Juventus, Italy’s most successful soccer team, declined to comment on the reports.

At 1230 GMT, Juventus shares were trading 9{1f0bb132e08ca1f8565add86e1f8740171c75f84ed80bad4a750114913f392ef} higher at 0.81 euros.

Over the last three days, shares in the club have surged more than 20{1f0bb132e08ca1f8565add86e1f8740171c75f84ed80bad4a750114913f392ef} in heavy trading volumes, as speculation over a Ronaldo transfer mounted.

Several Italian newspapers said on Thursday that Ronaldo’s agent was expected to meet Real Madrid President Florentino Perez later the same day to discuss the possible transfer.

Juventus won a seventh successive Serie A title in May, bringing their overall tally to a record 34 titles.

“It would be a big deal, increasing the team’s appeal and also because it would bigger business for Juve, through merchandising,” a Milan-based trader said.

Moments after lifting a third consecutive Champions League trophy by helping Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final on May 26, Ronaldo appeared to suggest he had already decided to leave, telling a television reporter on the pitch at Kiev’s NSC Olympic Stadium: “It was beautiful to play for Real Madrid.”

Ronaldo, Portugal’s most capped player and all-time leading scorer with 85 goals in 154 appearances, scored two goals against Juventus in Real’s 4-1 win in the 2017 Champions League final.

Earlier this season, he struck a jaw-dropping bicycle kick against the Italians in a 3-0 win in a quarter-final first-leg game in Turin which prompted Juve supporters to give him a standing ovation.

He scored four goals in the World Cup, including a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Spain, but missed a penalty in a 1-1 draw with Iran and could not prevent a second round 2-1 defeat by Uruguay.
