URUGUAY star Luis Suarez has sent Lionel Messi a touching message of support as the star faces fury over his Argentina performances.
Messi celebrated his 31st birthday today in Russia at the World Cup.
Messi celebrated his 31st birthday in training with the national team squad, and he was beaming throughout the session despite their perilous position in Group D.
The Barcelona hero joked around with Sergio Aguero and other team-mates, while he was given special birthday congratulations by manager Jorge Sampaoli.
Most of the squad appeared to be having a great time in training, though fans will be desperate for them to translate their energy behind closed doors onto the big stage.
But any birthday celebrations are likely to be subdued after Argentina's abysmal start to the tournament, drawing against Iceland before losing to Croatia.
And the Barcelona supremo has been slammed for his poor displays so far, and failing to even register a goal.
Now his current team-mate and ex-Liverpool star Suarez, 31, has offered his support in a birthday message.
Writing on Instagram, Suarez said: "Happy birthday, kid. Enjoy your day. ALWAYS SUPPORTING YOU and wishing you the BEST, FRIEND (bicep emojis)."
The message drew praise from scores of his 28million followers.
One said: "Everybody needs a friend like you Luis Suarez."
Another added: "The best friends, love you guys."
And a fellow fan said: "Love you guys, absolutely love you both. Happy Birthday Lionel Messi."
Argentina face going out of the competition if they fail to beat Nigeria, but if they win they would still need to better Iceland's goal difference if they beat Croatia.
England will play their second game against Panama today at 2pm.
