After Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalie Itumeleng Khune was awarded the Best Goalkeeper of the season award at this year’s PSL Awards recently, the nation was expecting to hail the man in person as he collected the accolade.
But, Sunday Sun reports, Itu was unable to collect the award in person because the sportsman’s drink has been spiked the night before the ceremony.
The source said, “We were chilling together the day before the awards, having some drinks. But we aren’t sure whether it was the alcohol he was drinking that didn’t sit well with him or someone had tried to spite him because he had a good season.”
It is believed the soccer legend started vomiting during the evening, and that he had to be rushed to medical assistance it was so serious.
Since he was unable to accept the PLS award, his father, Elias, represented his son instead.
A Chiefs spokesperson, Vina Maphosa, said in a statement, “He was booked off by the club and was suffering from abdorminal pain.”
We hope the celebrated goalkeeper recovers well and can enjoy the honour soon.
