PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns disgruntled as Supersport refuse to sell 2 players

PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns have made offers for two of Supersport United’s top players, TimesLive reports.

Following a close race for the league title en route to a record ninth crown, the Brazilians are seeking to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

In their bid to make reinforcements, they approached their city rivals, making offers for two of their stars in versatile winger Aubrey Modiba and PSL Young Player of the Season Teboho Mokoena.

However, according to Matsatsansa football manager Stan Matthews, the Tshwane giants’ twin offer was rebuffed, with the club opting to hang on to the duo – bar interest from outside the country.

“I spoke to Sundowns where I met with Yogesh (Singh) and coach Pitso (Mosimane)‚” he is quoted by the publication.

“We are not selling Tebza (Mokoena) or Aubrey (Modiba) locally and there is no further discussions around that. We have told both players that if their buyout clauses are met internationally‚ they are welcomed to go.

“In Tebza’s case‚ there is a bit of interest overseas for him and it is a matter of waiting and seeing how it unfolds. I should know in the next week or so whether we are getting the letter of invitation for Tebza. They know the prize and then it will just be subject to him going out on trial and doing his thing. But locally we are not selling Tebogo and Aubrey.”

Mokoena featured in all but two of Supersport’s league games in the 2018/19 season, where he found the net three times, with two of those strikes cracking the nod for PSL Goal of the Month accolades.

Modiba, on the other hand, contributed with five goals and 11 assists from 29 appearances.

Both players featured for Bafana in the Afcon qualifiers, but will miss the trip to Egypt, having failed to make the cut for the main tournament.
