A 66-year-old granny from Lentegeur, Cape Town, was left severely injured after being assaulted at her home on Saturday, 14 June 2025.

Gamieda Hendricks claims she was attacked by a group of men following an altercation with her tenant of 17 years, who she alleges refused to move out.

According to Hendricks, the incident began when her son and his girlfriend were using the toilet, and the tenant, who reportedly suffers from a weak bladder, became impatient.

Gamieda explained: "She did not want to wait for my son to come out of the toilet with his girlfriend because he took too long and she has a weak bladder, so she decided to spray my son with pepper spray."

"He pushed her hard and her head knocked against the wall, and it was bleeding. I am not sure what transpired because I live in the back in a wendy house," she added.

Hendricks revealed that she had moved out of her own house and into a wendy house on her property because living with the tenant had become "unbearable." However, her children still reside in the main house.

"When I got into the house, she [the tenant] said: 'You are going to see now, you n**iers' and she left my house at 9pm," Gamieda stated.

Later that evening, at approximately 11pm, a group of men arrived at the property in a white bakkie. Hendricks alleges that they kicked in the gate and pointed a gun at them.

"As I unlocked my wendy, they attacked me immediately. I was never beaten or kicked like this in my entire 66 years of existence," she recounted.

"They really beat me up in my pension years. One man kicked me about 20 times in my face, another woman kept beating me with a baton. They kept saying: 'where is your pig son, he hit the aunty and the aunty is crying upstairs'," Hendricks claimed.

Hendricks said her son was not home at the time of the attack, leading her to believe that the tenant had sent the men to assault them. "These thugs stole two phones and kidnapped one of my son’s female friends who was here and said she must show them where my son is or they’ll also beat her," she added.

Following the assault, Hendricks was rushed to hospital. "My body is in pain, I can’t cough, poo and have blue marks all over," she said.

SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that Lentegeur Police are investigating the incident as a case of common assault. "According to reports, four unknown males entered a premises in Lobelia Street in Lentegeur on Saturday 14 June 2025 at about 8pm and assaulted the occupants," Swartbooi stated.

He added that the suspects fled the scene and dropped the complainant (the son's friend who was kidnapped) in Mandalay. The suspects are yet to be arrested.

However, Hendricks disputes the police report, claiming that there were 10 to 12 people in the bakkie and that the female was dropped off in AZ Berman Road, not Mandalay.

Hendricks said that she has not seen her tenant since the assault, but the tenant's son came to collect his mother's belongings.

Police are appealing to anyone with information surrounding this incident to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. The investigation is ongoing.
