Cholera hits South Africa, another patient from Zimbabwe tests positive

A second case of cholera has been reported in Limpopo.

It has been confirmed in the Blouberg municipal area.

Limpopo health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana said the case also involves a Zimbanwean immigrant worker, based at the Kwaaiwater Game Farm.

Shikwambana said the man recently travelled home.

Upon return he sought medical attention after feeling unwell.

"Specimen were taken while admitted at Helen Franz Hospital and cholera was confirmed. The patient is recovering well in Helene Franz hospital," Said Shikwambana.

He said the department has already conducted thorough investigation in areas where the two patients are staying.

Department's officials are also on the ground in the area doing health promotions.

Shikwambana said the department wishes to call upon community members to continue healthy hygiene practices and to quickly visit the nearest clinic if they develop symptoms such as diarrhoea.
