BAFANA BAFANA and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Anele Ngcongca’s name has been used to defraud music boss Siya Ngcangca.
Siya, who owns Cia Music, claims to have lost about R10,000 last month in a scam. According to Siya, who is in Burkina Faso on work assignment, the scammer who used Anele’s contact number offered his music group, Driemanskap, a chance to perform at every Sundowns’ home game.
Siya said their engagements began in May.
“The guy, pretending to be Anele, sent me a WhatsApp message and asked me to enlist my artists’ names with the Patrice Motsepe Foundation, so they can perform at Sundowns’ games. He gave me a number of a guy he claimed worked for Sundowns.”
Siya said the person claiming to be Anele persuaded him to pay two registration fees (R5 000 pre-registration) for two performances. “I paid the money on 31 July,” he said.
“I realised late that I had been scammed. I never opened a case because I know Anele. All I want is to make people aware of the scam. I’ve written to Sundowns, but they haven’t responded.”
Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuso said: “Anele’s phone number has been hacked. The club is aware of what is happening and we are helping the players deal with the problem. Never give money to people using the club’s name.”
Thuso added that Anele was no longer using the number and would not be available for comment.
