A baby boy has been left orphaned after his parents were shot and killed in Bloekombos.
One-year-old Luthando Sesi, survived being shot in the chest, but his mom Sisanda, 27, died after she was shot multiple times on Tuesday night.
Shortly before that, Kraaifontein police visited the home where the attack happened on Jikizinto Street and informed the occupants that Sisanda’s boyfriend, Asanda Jilwa, had earlier been shot dead.
A family friend tells the Daily Voice: “We were still trying to come to terms with what happened earlier that night.
“The police came and showed us a picture of a man they couldn’t identify and we told them that he is Sisanda’s boyfriend, Asanda.”
She says shortly after 9pm, two unidentified men were seen walking into the yard.
The woman says she heard lots of gunshots being fired.
“I was so scared, I looked for a place to hide because I couldn’t tell which direction the sound came from.
“I was hiding for more than 30 minutes, eventually I got out and went outside when people started shouting.”
The witness said the child was found “on the floor and he had been shot in the chest and he was vomiting blood”.
“A neighbour rushed the child to the Day hospital where they transferred him to Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
“Sisanda was dead at the time the people arrived at the house.”
Meanwhile, Asanda’s bullet-riddled body still lay at the corner of De Nova and Old Paarl roads.
He was shot less than an hour before his girlfriend was murdered and child shot.
Residents say the young man was killed at about 8.30pm, when they heard gunshots and found his lifeless body.
The family friend says Asanda and Sisanda had been living together for about four years.
“They had a baby last year,” she explains.
“I’m not sure where Sisanda’s family is as she never shared that information.”
She says it’s difficult to determine the motive for the shooting.
“Since the weekend, a lot of people have been killed here in Bloekombos and residents suspect extortion.
“I’m not sure if any of them were connected to that type of thing, but this is shocking and the child is now left without parents.”
SAPS’ Andrè Traut confirms both incidents and says: “The circumstances are being investigated and the suspects are yet to be arrested.”
