A young entrepreneur from Goodwood has died after coming under attack by hijackers in Philippi on Wednesday afternoon.
The family of Kyle Venter, 20, has been left devastated after he was shot while making a delivery to a client shortly after 4pm.
Mom Sandra Fouche, 40, says Kyle’s boss came to their home to give them the bad news after his body was discovered in her car.
“Kyle is from Goodwood, but was living with a friend in Bergvliet as he was working at a construction company where he was part owner,” says Sandra.
“On Wednesday night his boss came to the house to tell us that Kyle was shot and killed in Stock Road while delivering a part to a client.”
The mom says the hijackers rammed the silver Hyundai i10 her son was driving and, as he tried to escape, they opened fire on the car.
“They shot from the back and then came around and shot again and the bullet hit him in the cheek and went through his neck. He died on the scene and police found all his valuables in the vehicle. The detective told me they suspect they tried to hijack him.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says: “Philippi East police are investigating a murder case after a shooting incident at about 3.45pm on the corner of Stock Road and Symphony Way, where a 21-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”
Sandra describes her son as a hardworking and funny young man who had big dreams of owning his own construction company.
“He was working very hard and was very proud of his achievements,” the hartseer mom says.
“He was set to take over the company he worked for as the owner is like a father to him. He has a 12-year-old sister and she is devastated by this. He was an innocent young man just doing his job and didn’t deserve to die like this. At this stage we are not sure if we have enough funds to bury him.”
Captain Van Wyk says anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Sergeant Rafonlodzi on 067 723 3675 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
