Police are on the hunt for a man who is accused of raping five children in Kraaifontein.
The children, who include four girls and one boy all aged eight years old, were allegedly raped by their 36-year-old neighbour in Wallacedene.
The children and the alleged rapist all stay in the same street.
Residents say the suspect fled the scene on Sunday when he heard that the children had alerted their parents about the incidents.
Angry community members demolished the suspect’s shack when they found it empty.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut the rape incidents happened within one week.
“The circumstances surrounding the rape of four girls and one boy, all aged eight years old, are currently under investigation by Kraaifontein FCS.
“The victims were allegedly raped by a 36-year-old male, known to the children in Masondo Street, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein between Saturday, 2 April 2021 and Sunday, 11 April 2021 inside his shack.
“The suspect fled the scene after community members broke down his shack.”
The father of the boy says the suspect lured his son to his house where he raped him.
“My son went to buy vetkoeks by the shop and he did this to him.
“His friends told me that my boy was raped, my child is traumatised and I am boiling with anger.”
The father asked the community to help find the suspect: “He must be found and brought to book.”
Anyone with information regarding the incidents or the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact investigating officer Constable Vivienne Floris on 064 327 1278.
