THE brutal murder of a young pregnant mother who was shot five times inside her boyfriend’s house last Wednesday, continues to haunt the rural village of eMabuyeni outside eSikhaleni.
The murder of Siphesihle Nxumalo (33) not only shocked the community, but her family is grappling to come to terms with the vicious incident.
The sound of gunshots echoed across the valley at about 8.30pm when two unknown men barged into the house and demanded to see the victim’s boyfriend.
According to the victim’s brother Sfiso Nxumalo, when the pair learned the boyfriend was not at the house, they decided to wait for him to come back from work.
"My sister was a visitor in his house and a neighbour was present when the men came in. When the boyfriend arrived home they asked him about what he had promised them before they opened fire on him and the neighbour."
The neighbour managed to escape by jumping over the fence but the boyfriend wasn’t so lucky.
He was shot several times and rushed to hospital where he is clinging to life in the ICU.
According to Sfiso, when they arrived back at the house they found his sister in a bloody scene.
She had been shot five times, and both she and the unborn baby were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police opened a case of murder, and a manhunt is under way.
The family is not only finding it hard to deal with the tragedy, but now seeks justice.
"Police must work swiftly to apprehend perpetrators who killed my sister. We are hurt and this has devastated our family, especially her young daughter," said Sfiso.
The deceased was laid to rest in KwaNcede area in eMacekane reserve on Sunday.
