An Elsies River family is in mourning following the senseless murder of a mom of three outside her home on Sunday evening.
Allison Sedeman, 37, was shot dead while sitting on the staircase outside her Ellendale Court home.
Her mother Magdalene, 57, says Allison was chatting outside with a female friend around 10pm when apparently a lone gunman appeared, fired in their direction and ran off.
No one else was injured and it is unclear who the intended target was.
“I rushed out and I saw her lying on the ground. I was shocked and heartbroken because she was not drinking or smoking. She stayed at home most of the time,” says Magdalene.
The ouma says Allison was a good woman and breadwinner and they are all in shock at her sudden death.
“I do not know how I am coping, I am just living. Allison worked for this community and assisted in school whenever she was available. She fed me and her children.”
Allison’s eldest child is doing matric this year and Magdalene says it will now be even more difficult for the teen to cope with her studies as the country is still grappling with Covid-19.
“This will be a difficult year without her mother and she might lose focus at school,” says the worried ouma.
Elsies River has had intermittent gang-related shootings over the past few weeks.
The local CPF organised a prayer session for the area two weeks ago in hope of stopping the bloodshed.
Allison’s younger sister Prudence, 29, is demanding answers from the police.
“Her killing was brutal, too many innocent people are losing their lives here. I want to know from the minister of police, who will raise her children now? Who will pay for their school fees? If the police were doing enough, innocent people would not be losing their lives like this.”
Police did not respond to queries.
