HIS song, Sukaphezukwami, was banned by Ukhozi FM as it was deemed too explicit.
So maskandi artist Sanele “Swenkangemali’’ Mthalane was shocked when the song was played on Sigiya Ngengoma on Saturday.
Swenkangemali told Daily Sun he was surprised and confused when he heard it on the maskandi show.
“I’m asking myself what’s going on at the station. I never asked any questions and they never gave me an explanation when they banned it. I thought it was due to Daily Sun’s intervention,” he said.
Swenkangemali said he was on the road when a fan told him the song was being played again.
“I thought it was a joke. But I was happy and sad at the same time. I was sad because it means someone from the station is trying to sabotage my work. On the other hand, I was happy that they realised their mistake,” he said.
But SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo said: “The SABC would like to reiterate that the song, Sukaphezukwami, is not on Ukhozi FM’s playlist following a decision it is sexually explicit and inappropriate for the station’s audience.
“It is, however, regrettable that the song was played. The station acknowledges that due process was not followed and appropriate action will be taken.”
