A Manenberg mother appeared in court on Wednesday after stabbing and killing her husband during a domestic dispute.
The distraught woman says after years of physical and emotional abuse, she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband once while he beat her adult daughter in their council flat on Tuesday morning.
According to a source, the 55-year-old man is a convicted rapist who spent nine years in Pollsmoor Prison for raping a young girl and was also charged with raping another minor.
The man, who cannot be identified to protect his victims, was buried on Wednesday, while his 54-year-old wife appeared at Athlone Magistrate's Court.
The mother showed the Daily Voice she had obtained several protection orders against her husband who, she claims terrorised the family for years.
“He smoked buttons and tik and would come here and steal from the house to go buy drugs. He called the children ******s all the time and fought every day with me,” she says.
“I have so many protection orders against him, but he just forces his way in here every day and harasses us.”
On Tuesday morning, the father again came to the flat and as the mom rushed to lock the gate, she says he was already at the gate.
“I was trying to close it and he came in giving me a wild look. He said: ‘Jy is binne in jou ma se ****, jy gaan nou sien wat maak ek met jou’.
“I stood up and my daughter argued with him and told him to stop calling us ******s. He threw a naartjie at her and she threw a banana at him and he got cross.
“He got her and started hitting her. I just grabbed a knife and stabbed him and I ran out. I could not believe it. I did not mean to kill him. I just didn’t want him to hurt her.”
The mother ran to Manenberg Police Station where she handed herself over to police.
Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the mom was charged with murder.
She was released on R1 000 bail and the case has been postponed to 22 June to allow for further investigations.
