South African musician Emtee has left his legion of fans stricken with worry after collapsing during a live performance on Sunday night.
He was on stage at the Durban July wrap-up party, performing as part of the line-up in KwaMashu. He appeared to be in good health when he began his set, but then became very rigid and limited in his movement.
A video which appears to show Emtee, real name Mthembeni Ndevu, 'collapsing' on stage during a performance has gone viral, drawing widespread concern for the musician. In the video Emtee is on stage for 22 seconds when he suddenly falls backwards, drawing gasps from the crowd.
While swaying on the spot, the rapper eventually collapsed and fell backwards, drawing gasps and reactions of shock from the crowd. He got back to his feet, but it became obvious he was in no condition to carry on.
He was eventually escorted away from the venue by security, who had to prop him up as he couldn’t walk by himself. There has been no official confirmation from his camp as to what caused the collapse, or what state the artist is in at the moment.
In another video the ‘Roll Up’ hitmaker is escorted off the stage by the security guards and the police. Speculations started making rounds after the person who took the video insisted that rapper was 'drunk.'
Please note the video contains strong language:
1. Ugh maan Emtee.
2. Camera guy, thank you. I wouldn't have known that "he's drunk" if you didn't say it 100 times. pic.twitter.com/NL7FTGsb4o

Rumours of the rapper being intoxicated by drugs as well emerged on social media, which includes rapper's Cassper Nyovest post on Twitter urging musicians to "stop playing with the gift" and "drop the drugs".
"Sometimes we are hated for trying to show n***s the light. God gave us a chance to make something of ourselves. We got families to feed ni**s. Let’s not play with the gifts. Let’s not laugh at each other as well, Let’s help each other. That cool sh*t is done. Drop the drugs!!!

Other video footage appears to show the musician being escorted off stage by security staff.
The musician's name immediately jumped to the top of the Twitter trending list after the footage went viral on Sunday, with fans calling on his record label Ambitiouz to help him.
As a fan of SA Hip Hop: this is not a laughing matter. The music business (in general) & hiphop specifically has to address how young artists are guided & mentored.
I wish @EmteeSA had seen my interview with Fresh about "respecting your craft".
I hope Emtee recovers from this https://t.co/53CuEmQSuq

Have Y'all thought that @EmteeSA is an artist and spends days on the street without resting? Hustling for his family to eat and entertain Y'all? He's human too, his body gets tired at times especially at such a busy weekend for artists, stop jumping into conclusion #Emtee
