Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi who is preparing herself for the prestigious Miss Universe 2019 will get a chance to meet Mzansi's darling comedian Trevor Noah while in New York for the competition.
She said: “It is a huge adventure. I am thoroughly looking forward to my time in New York, and, of course, to the entire year of my reign as Miss South Africa.”
Among other things that she will get up to include being interviewed by America’s biggest African American Women’s magazine, Essence and meeting with IMG, the international modelling agency that is a part of the mother company that owns the Miss Universe.
During the Miss Universe pageant, Zozi will be dressed in a unique Mpondoland inspired gown, designed by Laduma Ngxokolo, whose style concept is steeped in the traditions of the Eastern Cape, a province they both love and call home.Apart from sharing a common heritage, the designer and the reigning beauty queen both love the colours and textures that form part of Xhosa tradition
Zozi revealed: “I did not realize, when I decided to go with my own hair for the Miss South Africa competition, that it would have such far reaching implications and consequences.“It seems that I am becoming the international poster girl for natural hairstyles for African women. I did not set out to be, but I am extremely pleased if women are starting to realize that – if they choose to – they can give up on wigs and weaves and still be beautiful.
She will also will take Africa with her to New York Fashion week, modeling, among others, pieces from the iconic collection of Belgian-born Mozambican designer, Eliana Morargy. The collection “Basking in the Osun River” pays homage to West Africa’s Yorùbá women, long thought to have cosmic powers.

Miss Universe 2019 will be the 68th edition of the Miss Universe pageant. Catriona Gray of the Philippines will crown her successor at the end of the event. The pageant will be hosted by Steve Harvey on his fifth consecutive year of Miss Universe.
