South African celebrities want #JusticeForThoriso who was brutally murdered

Celebrities have joined scores of South Africans demanding justice following the death of Thoriso Themane.

Thoriso was killed after being brutally assaulted in Flora Park, Polokwane, on February 23 by a group of boys who filmed the incident on their phones.

Police believe the incident was a mob attack.

Video footage shows Thori, as he is also known, being kicked by the mob. Another clip shows some of the boys carrying his lifeless body.

A community member found a seriously injured Thoriso on Sunday. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police have taken in five schoolboys, aged between 15 and 16, for questioning.

The hashtags “Justice or Thoriso”, “Justice for Thori” and “Thoriso Themane” have been trending on Twitter.

Mzansi stars were called out on social media for not talking about the attack when the videos started going viral. But many celebs had only seen clips for the first time on Tuesday.

Cassper Nyovest was one of the first celebrities to speak out
“I’ve been following this #JusticeforThoriso hashtag and I am scared of viewing the video. I’m sad and I just can’t believe how cruel some people can be. I hope Thoriso’s family gets justice. I also hope our country heals from all this violence,” he tweeted.

The rapper also shared his thoughts on comments by some social media users that one of the boy’s arrested will get off because his father is a cop.

A video doing the rounds on Twitter shows a boy dressed in a school uniform allegedly confessing to talking part in the mob attack and claiming he is “untouchable” because of his father.

Cassper says his friend’s murderer walked free because his mother was a police office.

“Never been a violent dude. Grew up around it. Never been my vibe. One of my friends by the name of Itumeleng Mpedi was killed trying to stop a fight and the killer walked free cause the mom was a cop. It really happens in this country and that boy knows it.”

The Tito Mboweni hitmaker says all eyes will be on the justice system as the case unfolds.

Metro FM presenter Masechaba Ndlovu says the boys arrested must face the full might of the law
“If you are old enough to murder an innocent man in cold blood, then go to school the next day and brag about it, you are old enough to face the full might of the law.

“This is sickening. We want #JusticeforThoriso!” she tweeted.
