AFTER breaking up with his baby mama about a year and a half ago, Siyabonga Shibe had a tough time getting back into the dating game.
The 40-year-old single father shares that they had been together for seven years before breaking it off. Being single has been strange and the Uzalo actor says he’s way past his lonely days. He tells Move! that he’s ready to love and be loved again.
FINDING IT HARD TO DATE
With over 15 years in the entertainment industry, and starring in a number of Mzansi’s biggest shows, it’s safe to say the award-winning actor is a veteran.
It’s not hard to recognise the actor from afar. He admits that this has made his dating life a challenge.
He is currently single, and trying to date. He complains that some women fall in love with his onscreen characters and not him.
“Some women like you because they see you on TV. I want a woman who will love me for who I am, and not what I have,” he says.
The former Scandal! actor says he has been struggling to find his way back into the dating scene since he broke up with the mother of his child. He describes the past year as being unusual and strange.
Being single hasn’t been all bad for the actor, he says being single afforded him the opportunity to rediscover himself. He also shares that he got time to focus on and nurture his growing acting career.
“It does get lonely, but you get the freedom to do you. There are a lot of expectations when you are in a relationship and they bring a lot of disappointments,” he says.
He shares that he wants to find love and says he is trying to date a certain woman. Even though the actor won’t say anything about his potential partner, he says it’s good to go out.
CO-PARENTING WITH HIS EX-FIANCÉE
Siyabonga and the mother of his five-year-old son got engaged in 2015, and the actor paid lobola the same year. The child stays with the actor. Siyabonga moved to Durban with his child when he got a role on Uzalo.
He explains that as parents, they both decided that the child would be better off staying with him. He says that their relationship didn’t end in good terms, but says they have since moved past their differences.
“We do have our ups and downs, but we are in good terms. We love our child and we want what’s best for him,” says the actor.
Siyabonga says that even though he stays with his son, the mother of his child still forms a great part in the child’s life.
He explains that he may be a fulltime dad, but his ex-fiancée gets to spend time with the child as much as she wants to.
