HE made his province proud by reaching the finals on Idols SA. But when Thato Makape (24) arrived at his hometown of Postmasburg, Northern Cape, on Friday, he was welcomed like someone who had won a million bucks!
The small town came to a standstill as thousands went to see their favourite singer performing and signing autographs in his kasi, Boichoko Old Park.
Sello Maecho (23) from Kimberley said Thato was an inspiration that would make quitters think again.
“He has made us love the Idols show. I’m now proud of the Northern Cape. He has put our area on the map,” he said.
Many waited patiently for their turn as Thato dished out autographs.
Refilwe Botha (15) was excited. “Thato’s good and for him to reach the top two proves it. He’s a winner and we love him.”
Thato said: “The competition was very tough and required a strong mentality. Luckily, I had that. I was driven by joy and passion for the music and I’ll keep entertaining my fans.”
His mum Kedibone Makape (43) said she was proud of her only son.
“God has been good to my family in 2018. I got a job and my son made it to the top two. I’m proud and love him a lot,” she said.
