DJ TIRA’s wife Gugulethu Khathi has been caught up in a tug-of-war. And it’s between herself and her landlord over rent payments for her beauty shop.
According to insiders, the scuffle has gotten so messy that the salon, situated at the Ruimsig Shopping Centre in Roodepoort, west of Jozi, was raided by the sheriff of the court on Wednesday, stripping it of its material.
The battle also played itself out in the South Gauteng High Court, Jozi, where the 35-year-old successfully disputed that she owed her landlord, Vukile Property Fund Limited, an amount of R544 252.42.
Through a settlement agreement that unfolded outside the courts, it was established that the actual figure stood at just over R200,000. It was also established that the initial figure was inflated because of a mix-up regarding proof of payments.
Speaking to the SunTeam, Gugulethu said she was on the verge of opening criminal charges, as her belongings were taken away without an existing court order.
“People who claimed to be the sheriff of the court came and said they were under instruction to take my stuff. They proceeded to take my salon material without providing a court order or any other document they were acting upon,” said Gugulethu.
She said her attorney sent a letter to them. But those attempts were in vain because the company didn’t respond. In the letter seen by the SunTeam, the parties agreed she’d cough up monthly instalments of R37 000 until a sum of R220 000 was settled when her lease expires in February.
Legal representative of the Vukile Property Fund, Reaan Swanepoel, confirmed the sheriff of the court was sent.
Said Reaan: “They owe a lot of money, and everything was done in accordance with the existing court order.”
