Nandi Madida has vowed never to return to SA Fashion Week after being told to “hush” during a show
The singer claims SAFW CEO Lucilla Booyzen was rude to her and the experience has left a sour taste in her mouth.
SA Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 19 showcase kicked off this week with scores of A-list stars flocking to Sandton to view collections by their favourite designers.
Nandi, who started her own fashion label in 2016, says she was invited to a show by one of her designer friends.
The 30-year-old was so excited about the outfits she saw on the runway, she couldn’t help cheering.
“We were discussing the talent we could see. Naturally, like everyone, we were cheering in a decent manner to encourage and congratulate the designers on their work,” she told the Daily Sun.
But it seems Nandi and her industry friends were a bit too loud, because Lucilla told them to keep it down.
She says the CEO “very aggressively” told them to be quiet or she would kick them out
A “shocked” Nandi told the publication she had been to other shows and was never told to zip it.
“…what I experienced from the show was barbaric and very shocking,” she says about being told off by Lucilla.
Lucilla has played down the incident, saying she was not rude. She says she simply asked a “beautiful lady who came in late” to keep quiet when she started talking to a friend.
“Fashion Week is like going to the movies or ballet. You are attending to appreciate work that has been put together by a talented designer. You can’t be late, and we state that on our tickets.”
Do you think Nandi is overreacting, or justified?
