CONFIRMED: Power FM DJ JJ Tabane in hot soup over Phumla Williams and Faith Muthambi

RADIO station Power 98.7 confirmed yesterday that they have suspended JJ Onkgopotse Tabane as host of Power Perspective.

Tabane used the station to address a personal issue by apologising to acting Government Communication and Information System director general Phumla Williams for his conduct, which he attributed to his ambition, as well as that of former communications minister Faith Muthambi.

Earlier this month, Williams testified at the state capture inquiry that Muthambi wanted to steal at all costs from the GCIS.

Williams said Muthambi had stripped her of 70{1f0bb132e08ca1f8565add86e1f8740171c75f84ed80bad4a750114913f392ef} of her functions as deputy director general and that she wanted someone they could manipulate.

After this Tabane tweeted: “Faith Muthambi, this is a horror story.”

But spin doctor Chris Vick responded to Tabane. He said Tabane worked for Muthambi when she was communications minister.

“Didn’t you write those ridiculous opinion pieces in her name? Weren’t you advising her?” asked Vick.

The station said they gave Tabane an opportunity to tell the station the truth about the allegations which linked him to alleged improper conduct based on his association with Muthambi.

“Tabane assured the station manager that he had made full disclosure of all material facts pertaining to the matter.” The station said they viewed Tabane’s failure to make the disclosures and using the programme for personal purposes in a serious light.

“Power 98.7 considered it prudent to suspend Tabane’s hosting of Power Perspective while it considers the implications of his conduct.”

Tabane was not available for comment.
